Overseas Vietnamese of Ho Chi Minh City had the exchange with Foreign Affairs Department of Tien Giang province


 

On August 29, 2017, after the 72nd anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of September 2, Mr. Tran Hoa Phuong, the vice chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), took the group of overseas Vietnamese and civil servants of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese of HCMC to visit Tien Giang and had an exchange with the Foreign Affairs Department in here.

 



 

Mr. Luu Van Phi, the director of Department of Foreign Affairs of Tien Giang province, welcomed the group. During the meeting, Mr. Luu briefly informed the achievements his Department had achieved so far. One of the remarkable accomplishments is the work of collecting information, building, and updating the database for overseas Vietnamese originated from Tien Giang province.

The Department of Foreign Affairs of Tien Giang has coordinated with the Provincial Police, the Committee of Fatherland Front of Tien Giang, and the Provincial Statistics Office to collect information in 173 towns, wards, and communes. Initially, there were about 17,650 overseas Vietnamese from Tieng Giang, most of which were in the United States, Taiwan (China), Australia, France, Germany, Japan, etc. The number of overseas Vietnamese varied over time, so the Foreign Affairs Department regularly updated the information.

Besides, the work of organizing overseas Vietnamese Liaison Organizations is well implemented. Examples are overseas Vietnamese Liaison Organizations in My Tho city, Go Cong Dong district, Go Cong Tay district. The mobilization and support for overseas Vietnamese to participate in social work such as building houses of gratitude, contribution to the study encouragement fund or help overseas Vietnamese affected by natural disasters, etc. were well done.

Up to that time, there were 17 overseas Vietnamese businessmen came back and invested in Tieng Giang with the registered capital of 123.6 billion dongs. Among them, the overseas Vietnamese in the US topped the investment list with a registered capital of 93.3 billion dongs. Their businesses were stable, contributing to creating jobs for many local workers.

At the meeting, Mr. Luu Van Phi also urged overseas Vietnamese to mobilize their friends and relatives to invest in Tien Giang with many preferential policies. Also, he suggested that in the near future the Foreign Affairs Department of Tien Giang and the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese of HCMC should strengthen their cooperation for the better promotion of human resources from overseas Vietnamese.

Mr. Tran Hoa Phuong, the vice chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese of HCMC, highly appreciated the achievements of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Tien Giang province. He also expressed his trust in their coordination that will bring good results for both sides in the coming time.
